A Peruvian football game turned into disaster when a bolt of lightning tore across the pitch, killing 39-year-old footballer José Hugo de la Cruz Meza and injuring five others. This terrible incident happened during a local game between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca, shocking the neighborhood and social media both.
The game took place in Huancayo, a city tucked away in the Chilca area a location no one could have predicted turning become the scene of such a horrible event. The game grew tight as Juventud Bellavista maintained a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute and loud thunderous claps erupted around. The referee stopped the game to evaluate the strength of the storm after sensing growing risk. But suddenly lightning tore across the heavens and landed on the field in a split second nobody could have predicted or stopped.
Among the players killed by this instantaneous explosion of electric wrath, footballer de la Cruz Meza fainted right away. He may be seen hitting the ground moments following the strike in the video. He was taken right away to the hospital, but he passed away from his wounds even with quick medical assistance.
